Bed Linen: How to Choose the Best

When setting up the bedroom, a lot of things have to be kept in mind beside the styling and comfort. Even the smallest detail can prove to be a hindrance to comfort if it is not kept in mind. When buying bedding for a new room many important things need to be kept in mind because one wrong decision can totally be a waste of money.

First and foremost, before buying the bed linen; the size of the bed should be taken beforehand in order to fit the linen better on the bed. Wrong sized linen or a bed cover can make the mattress exposed which looks shabby and uncouth. The second vital thing is to carefully measure the size of the mattress. Buying a linen cover which doesn’t fit well will make the covers pop out. There are linens available which are mostly fitted on any kind of mattress. There are a few common sizes and they should be kept in mind.

It is always better to choose linen covers which have elastic bands around them. This makes fitting them a lot easier. Many people also tend to go for a flashier material because it looks good. However, the covers including those of the duvet and the pillow are constantly in touch with the human skin, so materials like silk might actually irritate and cause the skin to break out especially in summers. One should always prefer organic or natural materials like cotton; linen or sometimes Teri cotton. Cotton is one of the best absorbent materials and is very good for absorbing the sweat. Also they last a long time and can be washed without much hassle.

Linens on the other hand require a bit of special after care and maintenance but are very good for the summer weather because they tend to cool down in the summer. This is a good respite from the summer heat. A more costly blend is the one which has a blend of normal cotton and Egyptian cotton. They are surprisingly light, durable, rugged and easy to care for. They are slightly higher priced than their normal counterparts because of the many features they offer.

Washing bed linens requires special care. Thus, they should be first separate the bedroom linens into two: light colors or dark colors. Egyptian linen requires special care and not top loading machines because they may damage the fibers. They should always be washed in warm water and only by using a mild dry-cleaning agent.
